What is the difference between cross-linked polyethylene PE-Xa and PE-Xb?
They are just two different stitching technologies. At the same time, they are SIMPLY different and this means that, subject to the technological process, all physical, mechanical and other properties of pipes meet the requirements of DIN 4726, GOST 32415-2013, DSTU B V.2.7-143: 2007, EN ISO 15875. Also none of these normative documents does not separate the requirements for pipes according to the types of cross-linking (A, B or C), regulating only the degree of cross-linking of pipes for different types. Those. When defining the area of use or class of pipe operation, ALL of the above Standards define exclusively the type of material CROSS-LINKED POLYETHYLENE (PE-X) without specifying the type of cross-linking or division into corresponding classes.

The degree of crosslinking of PE-Xa is higher than that of PE-Xb. So he is better?
No and no again. Indeed, the degree of crosslinking for PE-Xa is 75%, while for PE-Xb it is only 65%. But these are norms from the Standards, which determine that in order to achieve the physicomechanical characteristics necessary for the appropriate class of operation, PE-Xa polyethylene needs 75% crosslinking, while PE-Xb polyethylene only 65%.

PE-Xa is softer (more elastic) than PE-Xb, so more convenient for installation?
Indeed, Pe-Xa is softer than PE-Xb, but this is a plus for installation, but a minus for long-term operation. And you choose what is more important to you. The PE-Xb crosslinking method assumes a three-dimensional distribution of molecular bonds, which leads to better performance in terms of high temperature service, oxidation and aging of the pipe.
